Lurking behind beakers and brews, Allan Kingdom goes from rapper to mad scientist in the twisted new visuals for “The Fusion.”
Set in a murky green and blue lab, the smoke from chemical reactions clears just enough for us to see Allan somewhere between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This video is an iced out hip-hop horror flick. As one of the ghastlier moments on LINES, “The Fusion” acts as a stark contrast to the more pastel tracks on the album. On this cut, the “Fresh Prince with a little more Kunta” hits us with some unhinged lines about surviving in the game and rising to power on his own terms.
Allan fuses sci-fi and swagger as his bars hail down on each tick of the hi-hat. The wicked atmosphere really strikes once he transitions into singing some haunting high notes. Allan shoots a deranged look into the camera, daring anyone to test the underdog. While the hook billows up and overtakes the track, Allan mixes a few potions together, cooking up everything from bad bitches to Denzel Curry.
Materializing from a foaming red tonic, Denzel spits his frenetic verse while we get shots of the lab, the studio, and the rapper near-losing his mind. His bars overrun the beat and create another chemical hazard: “It’s catastrophic/ Put it together, now we atomic/ Spread through the air like bubonic.” By the end of the video we’re getting two headed Allan; we’re getting Allan Kingdom and Denzel Curry sharing a body; we’re getting absolutely tripping out.
This video has us far from the evergreens, trades up the pinks and blues from his last set of visuals for “Know About It,” and shows us Allan’s macabre side. With more videos to come, make sure you catch up on Allan Kingdom’s debut album LINES.
